Over the years John and his wife Linda added to their ranch, and it now totals 128 acres, with 100 planted to walnuts so far. The last 50 acre parcel they purchased included the Red Barn that launched the Red Barn theme of his walnut business. Fifteen years ago the situation in the airline industry had improved and John became a pilot with American Airlines. "For the last few years, I've had two careers: farming and flying. Now, with my retirement as a Captain with American, I'm just a farmer."

John will continue to fly for recreation. He owns a Cessna 170 and restored a 1942 Aeroncia, a single engine, high-wing, tail-dragger. "I have the original logbooks and this particular Aeroncia has an interesting history," John relates. "it was supposedly used for watching whales off the coast of Monterey, but it was the middle of World War II, and the truth was it was used to look for submarines."

"My father's family was from Ireland and my mother's was from Italy. Our son Ryan is the sixth generation of Patrick family farmers. It's important o us. We feel that Red Barn Walnuts embodies the spirit of rural living, which is to know who grows your food."

.The picturesque Red Barn was originally a dairy ban and was built in 1904. It still has many of the original ladders and equipment that were used for the dairy farm. The Red Barn is where all the processing, labeling and shipment of the walnuts take place.
